Amazon Fashion: what 2.5M reviews show
The thinnest evidence base of the three: 3.0 reviews per product. Most Fashion products cannot support a product-level conclusion, so this desk publishes one category note and stops there.

What the data shows
Amazon Fashion has 2,500,939 reviews across 826,108 products — only 3.0 reviews per product. This is the thinnest evidence base of the three categories, and it changes what we are willing to publish: there is no honest product-level page for most of these ASINs, so this desk publishes one category note and a comparison tool, and stops there.
The review-weighted average is 3.97 (σ 1.43), the lowest of the three. 5★ reviews are 57.0% and 1★ reviews 12.1% — the highest 1★ share here. Verified-purchase reviews are 93.5%.
Review volume peaked in 2019 at 412,058 and is 35,995 in the partial 2023 year. The early years (2002–2004) contain a few dozen to a few hundred reviews; the 4.41 average in 2002–2004 is not comparable to the 3.84 average in 2021–2023.
What it does not tell you
With 3.0 reviews per product, the category average is dominated by a small number of high-volume products. It is a statement about the review corpus, not about “the typical Fashion item”.
The lower average and higher 1★ share are consistent with fit, sizing and expectation problems that apparel returns data would show directly — but this dataset has no returns data, so that remains a hypothesis, not a finding. We label it as such.

Method & limits
These figures are review-weighted aggregates from the UCSD Amazon Reviews 2023 dataset; they are not a survey and not a product ranking. The average rating is computed over reviews, not over products, so a product with thousands of reviews carries more weight than a product with three. The dataset ends in September 2023, which makes the final year incomplete — read the last bar as a partial year, not as a decline.
Definitions and thresholds are on the methodology page; scope and known limitations are on data sources & limitations.
Sample size. This page is built from 2,500,939 reviews collected between 2002 and 2023. Every figure on this page is a direct count or share of those reviews — nothing is modelled or inferred.
Data vintage. Source: UCSD Amazon Reviews 2023 (data through September 2023). Historical statistics are not a statement about a product's current quality, availability or price. Review volume is not sales volume.
Scope & deduplication. One review per reviewer per product is counted; ratings without review text still count toward distributions. Coverage is uneven across years and categories, which is why the sample size is shown with every table. See the methodology for the exact definitions.
No raw reviews. We publish aggregated counts and word frequencies only — never full review text, reviewer identities or images.
