Brand portfolios diverge: OXO, Norpro, Hamilton Beach and Cuisinart
OXO has fewer products than Cuisinart but a longer median lifespan and a higher share still receiving reviews. Brand size is not brand longevity — and neither is a single reliability score.
What we measured
For four large brands, we compared three portfolio metrics: product count, median review lifespan (how long a product keeps collecting reviews), and active share (the share of products still receiving reviews at the snapshot). These are portfolio metrics, not reliability scores.
| Brand | Products | Reviews | Median lifespan | Active share | Trajectory |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| OXO | 1,205 | 177,943 | 5 yr | 51.9% | expanding |
| Norpro | 1,333 | 126,144 | 8 yr | 48.7% | contracting |
| Hamilton Beach | 1,438 | 248,258 | 4 yr | 37.3% | steady |
| Cuisinart | 3,351 | 187,471 | 3 yr | 37.1% | steady |
Size is not longevity
Cuisinart has nearly three times as many products as OXO in this sample, but a shorter median lifespan (3 vs 5 years) and a lower active share (37.1% vs 51.9%). Hamilton Beach has the most reviews of the four, but the shortest median lifespan (4 years).
That does not mean one brand is “better”. A large catalog can contain many short-lived SKUs, replacement models and small accessories; a smaller catalog can be more stable. The metrics describe the portfolio, not the durability of a specific pan.
What it means for a buyer
- Do not treat brand size as a proxy for longevity. A big catalog can have a lot of churn.
- Check the specific product’s lifecycle, not the brand average, when you are buying one pan.
- Read the trajectory with the active share. “Expanding” means more new products than before, not that every product is long-lived; “contracting” means fewer launches, not that existing products are bad.
- Use the brand page as a map of the portfolio. It tells you where to look, not what to buy.
What this does not tell you
The product mix differs: Cuisinart and Hamilton Beach sell small appliances and accessories as well as cookware, while OXO’s sample may be more focused on tools. Median lifespan is computed from review curves, not sales. A brand with a shorter median lifespan may be refreshing its line faster, not making worse products. The brands are four examples, not a ranking; the lifecycle sample is a 2023 snapshot.

This investigation is review-derived (2023 vintage). Rates are the share of sampled reviews that mention a problem, not a lab-measured failure rate; associations are not causation. See the methodology, scoring standards and editorial policy. Corrections: how to report one.
